"Together Forever" BY Marc Paige I had just gotten back home Staten Island New York to be specific after spending fours years at college in California majoring in literature as my goal in life was to be a writer. Looking at the house that I called home for so many years I realized that it and the neighborhood had not changed a bit since I was last here two years ago. well that's not actually true I was here four months ago for my aunt's funeral. she had raised me as her own since my mom died when she was having me and my dad, I never knew who he was. I went inside and dropped my stuff on the floor and looked around the house that I had grown up in and sighed as it looked so lifeless now. I went to the stair case to go upstairs and have a look around already knowing that everything was just as I left it. The stair case groaned and creaked as I climbed the stairs one at a time as opposed to skipping over a few as I usually did. Seeing my old room just as I left it before I went back to California after my aunt's funeral made me smile a little. I headed to my aunt's room and was suddenly overwhelmed with sadness as I looked around wishing that she was here. I walked back out and closed the door and went back downstairs and got my bags and took them back to my room. It took a few hours to unpack all my stuff as I was in no hurry to get it done having no plans for the night. After I had some take out for dinner I had a shower and went to bed being in no mood for TV or anything else for that matter. As I lay there in the darkness of my room staring up at the ceiling I smiled remembered my aunt always used to play her rolling stones records ever night being a very huge fan of them. The house was so very quiet that it was definitely going to take some getting used to, I finally managed to fall asleep after lying in my bed thinking of exactly why I came back here. The sun awoke me the following morning hours before I usually got up after I forgot to close the blinds. It was no use trying to go back to sleep so I got up and decided to have breakfast and get an early start on all the things I had to do for the day. After I took a shower and got dressed I grabbed the keys to my aunt's car that I also inherited and headed off to the fist thing on my list of things to do, grocery shopping. "Randy, Randy Hansen" I heard a voice say as I was closing the door after I got outside. I turned around to see who it was and I started smiling as I saw it was my neighbor next door who had been really good friends with my aunt. "Hi Mrs. Mitchell" I said as I walked over to her as she smiled at me. I also noticed that she wasn't alone as I saw a boy I figured to be around eleven, or more possibly twelve that looked kind of familiar standing beside her with a little smile on his face as I approached them. "Hi" I said to the boy as I smiled at my neighbor as she walked over to my yard. "Hi" He said back with a shy smile as his shiny black hair almost covered his eyes that I noticed were blue as he looked up. "Come here and give me a hug" Mrs. Mitchell said as she walked up to me and embraced me as I looked over my shoulder and saw the boy with a huge grin on his face staring at us. "So when did you get back Mr. college graduate?" she said smiling breaking off her embrace that I have to say was pretty tight for an old woman. "Uh... yesterday afternoon" I said smiling. "You should have come over for dinner last night we would have loved the company" she said smiling at me and looking over to the boy who came a little closer to us. "Oh I didn't want to disturb you" I replied as the sun cast a strange aura on her gray hair. "Nonsense you're family" she said making me blush as she smiled at me. "This is my grandson Chase" she said finally giving me the name of the smiling boy. "That's Chase" I said smiling at him as I remembered him now after he had visited her before when he was much younger. "That's him" she replied with another smile. "You visiting for the summer" I asked looking at him as summer was almost over. "Uh... no I live here with my grandma now" he said with a little smile brushing his black hair from his eyes. "Oh okay" I said smiling back at him. "Randy was one of my students and I think he hated playing the piano more than you do" she said smiling at Chase as he grinned looking at me. I smiled remembering those horrible lessons my aunt forced me to take when I was about the same age as Chase. But on the other hand I really did like spending time with Mrs. Mitchell, she was really nice to me and even looked after me sometimes when my aunt was away at work. At times I used to imagine what it would be like to have a grandmother like her and even pretended that she was my grandmother. "So where are you off to now?" she asked me smiling. "I'm going to get some groceries" I replied with a smile. "Chase why don't you go with Randy" she said looking at her grandson. "You don't mind do you?" she asked turning back to me as I noticed chase looking at me to see what my answer was. "Not at all, in fact I could use the company" I said noticing a little smile appeared on his face. "How about it?" I said looking at him. "Okay" he replied with a shrug of his shoulders making no big deal about it. "It's really good that you decided to come back home Randy" she said smiling and touching my cheek gently. "Yeah it's nice to be home again" I said with a smile. "Well don't let me keep you back, I'm sure you have a pretty busy day ahead of you" she said smiling and fixing the collar of the shirt I was wearing and brushing my hair out of my face, much like my aunt used to do. She kissed Chase on his head making him blush a little as he looked at me before she left and walked back over to her house and smiled at me before she went inside. Chase smiled shyly at me holding his head down a little as his hair obscured the view of his eyes. "Let me get the car out of the garage okay" I said to him as he looked up and smiled shyly at me again. "Okay" he replied looking up with a little smile as I went over to the garage to get the door open. I got the garage door open and when inside hoping that the car still worked after being parked in there for four months without being used. I was in luck as the engine turned over although the needle on the gas gage was nearing empty, I adjusted the rearview mirror and saw Chase standing at the side of the drive way waiting on me to get the car out. "Hop in" I said to him after slowly backing out of the garage stopping where he was standing. He opened the car door and climbed in and smiled at me a little as he pulled the seat belt across his shoulder, I did the same and slowly reversed out of the driveway into the street. "I have to make a quick stop at the ATM and the gas station before we go to the supermarket okay" I said to him as I drove out of the street. "Sure" he replied as he put down the window letting the wind blow through his thick head of jet black hair. We got to the ATM first and Chase waited in the car and as I withdrew some of the money from the from my dwindling savings account. I got a substantial payment from the insurance company after my aunt died but that was almost gone from paying off the rest of the mortgage on the house, college tuition and my aunt's funeral expenses and general bad spending on my part. It was a lot for me to handle being twenty two and having all those responsibilities to deal with but some how I did. Our next stop was the gas station filling up the gas tank and also finding out that two of the tires need air. I thanked the gas station attendant for pointing that out to me because changing a tire or tires as it might have been was the last thing I wanted to do today. After inflating the tires back up to their required pressure and paying for the gas we drove off making our way to the supermarket that was about twenty minutes away from where we currently were. "So how did you come to live with your grandmother?" I asked glancing at Chase trying to find out a little about him. "Um.... my mom and dad left me there" he said holding his head down sounding really sad. "Oh" I said deciding to leave it at that as I saw how upset he got. "Do you like living here?" I asked glancing at him again. "It's okay I guess" he said glancing over at me. we both remained pretty quiet as he looked out the window and I figured he probably wasn't a very talkative type much like myself. "So you don't like playing the piano either huh" he said to me after a few minutes as I glanced over at him. "I absolutely hated playing the piano" I said chuckling remembering those half hours of torture called piano lessons. "Me too" he said with a snicker. "what were you studying at college?" he asked as I noticed him looking at me from the corner of my eye with an enquiring stare. "Uh.... literature I'm gonna be a writer" I said making a turn as we were getting closer to our destination. "Oh that's cool" he said looking back out of the window as I glanced at him. "what about you what do you want to be?" I asked slowing down as we approached a traffic light. "It's kinda stupid" he said blushing a little holding his head down slightly. "Come on tell me I won't laugh" I said as we came to a stop at a red light. "An artist" he said turning and looking at me expecting me to maybe laugh. "what's stupid about being an artist" I said looking directly at him now. He just smiled and shrugged his shoulders looking at me as I stared into his blue eyes. "Maybe you can show me some of your paintings some time" I said smiling at him. "Um okay" he said with a smile. "HEY MOVE IT BUDDY" I heard someone yell honking his horn behind us as I didn't realized the light had turned green. "ALRIGHT KEEP YOUR PANTIES ON FOR FUCK'S SAKE!" I yelled back putting my head out the window as the guy continued honking his horn. Chase giggled at my comment as we pulled off and I couldn't help but laugh also at my comments to the driver behind us. "um.....do you have a girlfriend" Chase asked catching me a little off guard. "Uh....No, we broke up" I replied with as he had apparently warmed up to me. "Oh" he said looking out the window again. "what about you I bet you have to beat the girls off with a stick" I said chuckling. "well not really" he said blushing. I smiled at him before making a turn into the parking lot of the supermarket as we got to our destination. After I found a parking spot we went inside and grabbed a shopping cart and slowly walked up and down the various isles as I tried to figure out all I had to get. "Aren't you gonna buy anything?" Chase asked looking at me as we had walked up and down several isles without picking up a single thing. "Sure I just don't know what I should buy" I said looking at him as he looked over a few cans on the shelf, shopping wasn't something I was accustomed to doing. "How about this" Chase said picking up a can of mushroom soup. "well it's a start" I said with a smile as he smiled back putting the can into the empty shopping cart. we walked through a couple of isles Chase picked up stuff that I didn't even think of buying, he even looked at the prices comparing them and looking for discounts which was something I never would have done. "Is there anything else we should get?" Chase asked smiling at me. "I think we got too much" I said looking at the almost full shopping cart wondering how much all this stuff was gonna come up to. He smiled at me as I pushed the shopping cart over to the cashier getting in line waiting my turn as Chase looked around. "Hey you want anything?" I said to him as he stood beside me. "No I'm fine" he replied. "Are you sure?" I asked again. "I am kinda thirsty" he said smiling shyly. "Go get what ever you want" I said smiling at him. He smiled back at me and took off running up the isle as I looked back watching as he disappeared around the corner. As I pushed the shopping cart up to the cashier I saw chase come back with two sodas and a couple of Twinkies. "I got you something too, you don't mind do you?" he asked looking up at me with a look of uncertainty . "I told you get whatever you want" I said smiling at him. He smiled at me and I started to unload the groceries out of the shopping cart as the cashier smiled at me as she started scanning the prices on the groceries totaling them up. I was surprised that all the groceries only came up to a little over sixty bucks including Chase's Twinkies and sodas. I paid for the groceries and the guy packed up everything into three bags, Chase took one and I took up the other two and headed back outside to where we parked. we put the groceries in the back seat and Chase smiled at me as he picked up his Twinkies and sat in the front seat. I got back in the driver seat and smiled at Chase as he slowly ate one of the Twinkies smiling at me as I started up the car and slowly back out of the parking space. "You know you're a really smart shopper" I said to Chase glancing at him as I pulled out of the parking lot. He just smiled at me and continued eating his Twinkie as we headed back home, Chase ate another of the Twinkies and looked out the window glancing at me from time to time and smiling. "You want one?" he asked handing me a Twinkie with a smile. "Oh no thanks" I said smiling at him. He smiled at me and shoved it into his pocket and leaned into the back seat to get his soda out of one of the bags. He smiled at me again when I caught him looking at me as he sipped on his soda. when we got back home I slowly drove up into the garage as I didn't have anywhere else to go that day that required use of the car again. Chase took off his seat belt and opened the back door and helped me get the groceries out of the car. "Here hold this for a sec" I said to him handing him one of the bags so I could close the garage door. "thanks" I said as was about to take the bag back. "It okay I can carry them both" he said smiling. "Okay then" I said smiling back at him. We walked up to the front door and Chase stood back holding the two bags of groceries as I fidgeted with the keys trying to get them in the lock. I unlocked the door and held it open for him as he smiled and carried the bags inside. "where's the kitchen?" he asked studying the layout of the house wondering which direction to go in. "Make a left" I said to him as I closed the door behind me. He headed into the kitchen with the bags as I followed behind him, Chase set the bags down on the kitchen counter and turned around and smiled at me. I placed the bag I was carrying next to his as he stood near the counter looking around the kitchen. "Thanks for the help Chase" I said to him as he focused his attention to me. "It was nothing" he said smiling. "You can stick around for a while if you want to" I said thinking that maybe he could use some company as I knew I definitely could. "Nah I think I'm gonna go home and let my grandma know I came back" he said brushing away his hair from his eyes. "Oh okay then" I said feeling a little disappointed as he turned to leave. "I can come back later if that's okay with you" Chase said turning around to face me before he walked out the kitchen. "Sure, I'll see you later then" I replied smiling at him. "Bye" he said smiling as he pushed the door open. "Bye" I replied as he smiled back a before walking out the door. "Alone again" I said with a sigh as I left the kitchen and headed up stair to get the house cleaned up from the film of dust that seemed to cover just about everything. I started in my bedroom dusting and vacuuming moving from there to the hall, then the guest room and finally my aunt's room that I really didn't feel like going into mainly because I missed having her around. After I finished upstairs I turned my attention to the living room then the kitchen, when I was done with the kitchen I had to rest for a few minutes. I never realized how much work it took to keep this place and then I started to feel bad for never telling my aunt how much I appreciated all she had done for me and for not picking up after myself sometimes. I made myself a sandwich for lunch before continuing my cleaning packing up a lot of stuff that I didn't need or want deciding to give it to charity. I dropped myself on the couch a few hours later exhausted glad I decided to be a writer as manual labor was just not my thing. I managed to regain some of my strength and headed up to my room where I collapsed on the bed and fell asleep. When I awoke a few hours later I lay on my bed thinking I should probably start work on my book soon. I had written several shorts stories in college having several of them published in magazines which had led me down the path of becoming a serious writer of fiction. I got up off my bed and went into the bathroom and looked at my disheveled appearance in the mirror after relieving myself. A few quick stroke of my hair brush got my brown hair back to order from it's unruly appearance I stood there looking at myself for a few seconds looking at myself wishing I didn't look the way I did. myself loathing was interrupted when I heard the doorbell ring downstairs, I left the bathroom and went down to answer the door wondering who it could be. "Hi" I said smiling as I saw my visitor was Chase. "Hi" He replied smiling. "come on in" I said to him holding the door open. "My grandma is giving piano lessons" he said snickering as he came inside. "Lucky you" I said chuckling as I closed the door. "what were you doing?" He said looking at me with a smile. "I Just got up from a nap" I said yawning. "I can tell" he said with a chuckle. "Let's go into the living room" I said to him. we went into the living room and sat down on the couch and I turned on the TV as Chase sat next to me. "My grandma says she's expecting you for dinner later and don't be late" Chase said smiling at me. I chuckled a little at his grandmother's dinner invitation or more accurately order to attend happy that I didn't have to spend the entire evening alone. "So you ready for school?" I asked looking at him as there were only about two weeks of summer left. "I guess so" he said sadly. "why the long face?" I asked looking at him. "I don't have any friends and everyone hates me there" he replied holding his head down. "I didn't have any friends and everyone hated me too when I was your age" I said to him. "Why" he asked looking up at me. "They just did I guess" I said looking at him. "It's the same with me" He sighed and hung his head down. "Listen the world's full of assholes you either have to become one of them or just fucking ignore them" I said looking at him. He looked up at me and smiled at my statement that had seemed to cheer him up a bit. "I just don't know what I ever did to make everyone hate me" he said looking at them. "Your grandma doesn't hate you and I just met you and I like you" I said trying to make him feel better about himself. "You like me?" he said with a little smile looking at me. "Sure why not" I replied looking at him. Chase's smile seemed to broaden when I said that a she glanced up at me as his face turned red. "who ever doesn't like you fuck them" I said making Chase giggle. "Yeah fuck them all" he said laughing. "Let's see What's on" I said turning my attention to the TV that we had not been paying attention to while we were talking. Chase smiled at me as I smiled back at him before we turned our attention to the TV flipping through the channels to see what was on. We settled on cartoons and sat back in the couch occasionally glancing at each other and smiling when ours eyes met. "we better head over to your place or we'll be late for dinner" I said to Chase after a few hours of TV. "Yeah my grandma hates it when I'm late" Chase said with a giggle. "well let's go then" I said getting up off the couch. I took off the TV and Chase and I headed to the door, we walked over to his house and found his grandmother in the kitchen finishing dinner. "Oh good you're both on time" Chase's grandmother said smiling at us. "Chase go wash up for dinner and come set the table" she said to Chase. "Okay grandma" Chase said giving me another smile before he left the kitchen and I heard him running up the stairs. "Oh Randy sit down and relax you're a guest Chase will do that" she said smiling at me as I started setting the table. "I don't mind" I said smiling as I set the plates on the table. Chase came back into the kitchen and smiled at me as I was doing his job of setting the table, he He got the knives and forks as I set the napkins and his grandmother started brining the food over to the table. I sat down with Chase sitting at the head of table being the man of the house so to speak as his grandmother sat across from me. After we said grace we passed the food around to each other and took how much we wanted. "can you pass me the mashed potatoes please" Chase said smiling at me. "Sure" I replied passing the bowl over to him. "So Randy what was California like?" Chase's grandmother asked smiling at me. "well it a lot warmer than New York" I said smiling at her knowing that in a few months we would be probably be knee deep in snow. I told them all about my experiences in California during my four years living there, and the book that I was going to write noticing Chase looking at me intently almost forgetting that he was eating at times. "Dinner was great thanks for having me over" I said after having the most delicious and filling meal in a long time. "Thank you dear" she said smiling at me as Chase got up and left the table. "How long has Chase been living with you?" I asked remembering that he was not here when I came to take care of my aunt's funeral. "Oh he came to live with me about a week after Judy's funeral when you left" she said sighing with a very troubled look on her face. I suspected that something terrible happened to Chase's parents by the way he acted when I asked about them earlier and his grandmother's reaction all but confirmed my suspicions, but I didn't want to seem nosy so I dropped the conversation right there. "Here's your pills grandma" Chase said as he came back to the kitchen where were sitting with three vials of pills. "Oh thank you honey" she said with a smile as he took out one from each container and poured her a glass of water. "My heart is not as strong as it used to be" she said smiling at me probably because of the look on my face since I never knew she had any heart conditions. Chase smiled at me as I looked back at his grandmother Taking her pills and having a sit of water from the glass. "Oh you have to take one of theses too" Chase said taking another bottle of medication from his pocket. I smiled at him as he reminded me of myself taking care of his grandmother just as I took care of my aunt when she found out she was sick. "well I better get started on the dishes" she said smiling as she started getting up from the table. "I'll take care of it" I said as I got up from the table. "You don't have to Randy" she said smiling at me. "Please it's the least I can do" I said looking at her. "Yeah grandma relax go put your feet up Randy and I will take care of the dishes" Chase said smiling as he glanced at me. "Okay I'll leave you two to it then" she said smiling as she got up and left the kitchen. "I'll wash you dry" I said to him as I cleared the table. "Deal" he said smiling at me as we took the dirty dishes over to the sink. "How old are you?" he asked smiling at me as he dried the plate that I handed to him. "Twenty two" I said. "Oh" he replied. "How old are you?" I asked smiling at him as I handed him another plate. "Twelve but I'll be thirteen in December" he said smiling. I smiled back at him handing him another plate as he took it with a smile drying it off and setting it on top the others. "Do you miss California?" he asked looking at me. "I think it's too soon for me too but I definitely will when the snow rolls in" I said chuckling. we finished up washing the dishes and put the left over in the refrigerator and put away the dishes. "um...... do you still want to see some of my paintings" Chase said looking at me with a very eager expression. I could tell that he didn't want me to leave yet why he asked me to see some of his painting and to be perfectly honest I really didn't want to leave just yet either. "Okay then show them to me" I said smiling at him. "Come on up to my room" he said smiling broadly. "You boys finished with the dishes?" Chase's grandmother asked smiling at us from as we came out of the kitchen. "Yup" Chase said smiling at his grandmother as she was sitting on the couch knitting. "I gonna show Randy some of my paintings" he said smiling at his grandmother and then at me. "He's really good you know" she said smiling at me. Chase blushed when I looked at him and held his head down a little letting his hair cover his eyes. "Okay you boys go about your business" his grandmother said straighten her glasses on her nose as she continued with her knitting. Chase ran up the stairs two steps at a time as I took it slow being in no hurry to get upstairs and the fact that all the food I ate was making me a bit sluggish. My initial thoughts of what chase said about wanting to become an artist made me think along the lines of cartoonish drawings, but when I got to his room and he showed me the first painting I was in awe. The painting Chase showed me was no cartoon drawing but a vivid depiction of New York city's central park. "You painted this?" I asked in disbelief as the colors seemed to come to life, I hadn't seen Central part in a few years but this was a perfect depiction of it. "I knew it wasn't any good" he said sighing. "Are you kidding Chase this is amazing" I said chuckling still in disbelief that someone as young as him posses such extraordinary artistic skill. "Really?" he said chuckling a little. "Yes it's amazing" I said glancing at him and then back at this painting that was like no other. "How did you get these colors" I asked looking at the painting knowing that theses weren't store bought paints. "I mixed them" he said smiling as I looked back at him. I looked at him and smiled as he blushed I even noticed he had an easel in the corner of his room just as a professional painter would. "You don't want to be an artist you're the real deal" I said smiling at him as his face turned red. "Have you painted anything else?" I asked looking at him. "Oh yeah a couple" he said as I handed him back the painting. I sat on his bed as he brought me more of his work that were equally amazing as the first painting he showed me. He smiled and blushed when I looked at him and commented on how great his paintings looked and his outstanding talent. "Have you ever thought about entering one into an art contest or something" I asked staring at him. "You're the first person besides my grandma that I ever showed them to" he said blushing again. "wow lucky me" I said making him grin. "You'll remember me when your famous right" I said as he started laughing. "I won't forget you" he said chuckling. "I'll hold you to that" I said chuckling looking back at his paintings still in awe of his skill. "Do you really think that they're good?" he asked looking at me. "I think there awesome" I said as they really were. He smiled and his face turned red again as I could tell how much it meant to Chase to have someone appreciate his talent. "So what are you writing your first book about?" he asked after he put his artwork away. "I don't really know yet I have a few ideas that I'm polishing before I start" I said as he came back over to his bed and sat down. "Oh okay" he said smiling. "Well I better be getting home" I said sighing. "Yeah Okay" he said sounding a bit sad that I was leaving. "Is it okay if I come over to your place again tomorrow?" he asked hopefully. "Sure you can come over anytime you want" I said as I got up off his bed. He smiled broadly at me and walked downstairs with me, we didn't see his grandmother in the living room so we went into the kitchen. "Oh Randy I was just about to make some tea would you care for a cup" she asked smiling at me. "No thank you Mrs. Mitchell I just came to sat goodbye and tea is not really my thing" I said politely declining. She smiled at me as I glanced at Chase standing next to me who was smiling also. "Thanks for dinner" I said thanking her for her hospitality. "Like I said before you're family and you're always welcomed here" she said smiling warmly at me. I don't think Mrs. Mitchell knew how much that meant to me having her consider me as part of her family but it was nice to feel like I belonged somewhere again. "You're the grandson I never had" she said smiling as I heard Chase chuckling next to me. "I guess that makes us brothers" Chase said smiling up at me. "I guess so" I chuckled looking at his white teeth as he smiled. "Good night Mrs. Mitchell and thanks again for dinner" I said to her before smiling. "You're welcome have a nice night" she said taking the kettle off the stove as it started whistling. I smiled at her and left the kitchen as Chase followed me walking me to the door to see me out. "See you tomorrow da Vinci" I said to him making him smile before I walked out. "Bye" he said to me as I turned back and smiled at him as I walked down the driveway and headed over to my place. I smiled at him as I walked up my driveway as he was still at the door looking at me, he waved at me before going in and closing the door. "What a nice kid taking care of his grandma" I thought to myself opening the door and going inside. I went up stairs and took off my shirt as I walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. I came from the bathroom after showering and taking care of certain need that I'm sure I don't have to explain and pulled on a pair of boxers and settled in my bed. Somehow I was more tired tonight than I was last night because I fell asleep almost immediately. The next thing I knew after that was someone was ringing the doorbell waking me from a really good dream I crawled out of my bed wondering who the hell could be ringing the doorbell in the middle of the night. To my surprise it wasn't the middle of the night it was morning already as the sun's ray shone through the blinds in my room. "I'm coming I'm coming" as said as I came down the steps as who ever it was out side was ringing the doorbell almost continuously now. "What the hel.......Oh hi Chase" I said as I opened the door and saw him standing outside smiling as I was partially blinded by the sun. "Come in" I said shielding my eyes. "I'm sorry I woke you" he said holding his head down. "It's okay I needed to get up anyway" I said as I glanced at the clock on the wall and saw it was almost nine thirty. "what can I do for you" I said yawning and scratching my head as I sat down on the couch and Chase sat in a chair opposite me. "Um.....Uh...... My..... um......" he stuttered as I noticed his eyes were fixed on my crotch. "I..... Um....Uh" he said nervously scratching his neck. "I looked down to see what he was staring at and was really embarrassed when I saw my dick hanging out partially from my boxers. "Uh...Sorry about that" I said quickly covering up embarrassed that I answered the door like that. "Uh....it's okay" he said smiling at me. We both remained quiet for a minute as Chase kept glancing at me and smiling as I could tell my face was probably beet red. "Uh what were you saying before" I said trying to get that little incident out of our minds. "Oh yeah" Chase said as I saw his hand go down and adjust his crotch as he looked at me continuing with the reason why he came over. "My grandma told me to tell you to come over for breakfast" he said smiling at me. "Okay" I said smiling as I could use some breakfast. "Let me get some clothes on I don't want to flash your grandma too and give her a heart attack" I said as chase stared laughing. I got up leaving Chase in the and went upstairs to get dressed stopping off at the bathroom first to pee. "God" I said looking at myself in the mirror after I flushed the toilet seeing my hair sticking up all over the place, I couldn't believe I answered the door like that. I went to my room and got dressed straightened out my hair with a few brush strokes and headed back downstairs. Chase smiled at me and turned off the TV and got up from his seat and we headed over to his grandmother's house. "I was just about to come get you two" his grandmother said smiling as we made our entrance into the kitchen. "My fault I was still asleep when Chase came over" I said smiling as I pulled up a chair and sat down at the table. "Oh Chase I told you not to wake him If he didn't answer the door" his grandmother said to him as he held his head down as she started serving up breakfast. "It's okay I'm glad he did actually or I would have slept all day" I said as he lifted his head and smiled at me. "Oh I forgot my pills" she said as she was about to sit down. "It's okay Grandma I'll get them" Chase said as he got up from the table and raced off. "I don't know what I would do without him" she said smiling as she sat down. "He kinda reminds me of myself when I was his age" I said smiling at her. "I'm so sorry that you had to go though all that with Judy no child should ever have to face all that" she said taking my hand in hers across the table. "I didn't mind I loved my aunt and I would have done anything for her" I replied feeling a bit sad as I thought of how long she suffered from cancer. "That enough talk about all that sadness it's much to early in the day for that" she said smiling at me and giving my hand a squeeze. I smiled at her as Chase came back with her medication and put them down on the table and sat down and smiled at me. We had a nice breakfast together as Mrs. Mitchell filled me in a little on what had happened around the neighborhood while I was away. "so what do you have planned for today?" she asked smiling at me as I was stuffing myself with some of the biscuits she made for breakfast. "I have some stuff that belonged to my aunt to take to Goodwill and I'm pretty much free for the rest of the day" I said looking at her. I have some stuff to give to them myself, do you mind taking it with you?" she asked as she took a sip of her tea. "No not at all" I said smiling at her as I glanced at chase staring at me turning off when I looked in his direction. "Is it okay If I go along grandma" Chase asked looking at his grandmother for her response. "well if it's okay with Randy" she replied looking at me. Chase turned and stared at me as well with a huge smile on his face already knowing what my answer was. "Sure you can come along" I replied before taking another bite of those delicious biscuits his grandmother made. Chase grinned at me as the three of us continued eating our breakfast occasionally glancing and smiling at each other. "Thank you so much for breakfast Mrs. Mitchell" I said smiling at her after I finished eating. "Your welcome sweetheart" she replied with a smile. "I hadn't had a breakfast like that since...." I said pausing as I remembered my aunt making me breakfast just like this one almost everyday. "well in a long time" I continued. It's funny the things that you miss not really giving much thought to them until you can no longer have them. "what do you say you and I get a move on huh" I said smiling at Chase. He smiled at me wiping his mouth in the napkin before he got up from the table, his grandmother got up also and started clearing the table. Chase and I headed back over to my place and he helped me take the boxes of my aunts clothes and some other stuff outside. "I'm gonna get the car out of the garage okay" I said to him as I set down a box outside and walked over to the garage door. "Okay I'll bring the rest of the boxes outside" Chase said to me with a smile before he went back inside. I got the car from the garage and parked in the driveway and opened the trunk as Chase came back out with one of the boxes. He set in down next to the others and went back inside again as I got out of the car and started loading the boxes into the trunk. "Oh let me help you with that" I said smiling at him as he came out struggling with the weight of the box he was holding in his hands. "It's okay I can carry it" he said smiling over the box as he walked up to where the other were on the ground and set the box down on the ground. "Good thing you had breakfast" I said joking with him and making him smile. "Yeah" he said smiling as he picked up one of the other lighter boxes and handed it to me to put into the trunk. "Was that the last one?" I asked as I couldn't quite recall just how many boxes there were. "Yeah" he said handing me another box. "I hope there's room for your grandma’s stuff" I said smiling as I put the last box that Chase had struggled to lift again into the trunk taking up the last free space. "Let's go get your grandmother stuff" I said after I closed the trunk that was already full . We walked back over to his house where his grandmother met us at the door and led us over to the garage to get the boxes. "It's just these three over here" she said pointing the boxes out when we followed her into the garage. I took up one as did Chase and we walked out of the garage back to my yard, I had to put them in the back seat since the trunk was full. "I'll get the other one" Chase said smiling as he raced back over to his yard to collect the other box from the garage. He came back a minute later with a huge smile carrying the last box in his hands, I took the box from him and put it in the back seat along with the other two while he opened the front door and got in the car waiting for me. I joined him a few seconds later sitting in the driver seat as he smiled sitting next to me already securely strapped in his seat belt. After I pulled my seat belt across my shoulder I started the car and slowly backed out of the drive way checking the traffic before I pulled out into the street. Chase's grandmother waved to us and he waved back before we pulled off driving out of the street. I turned on the radio and as I continued driving as chase glanced at me and smiled as the wind blew his hair that always seemed to hide his eyes. I was a bit surprised when I heard Chase humming along to the Rolling stones paint it black making me wonder how he knew that song as it was released years before either of us were born. He continued humming as the song went on and then made me smile as he started to sing along to it nodding his head in tune with the song. I glanced at him and he stopped and blushed at me as he probably didn't realize he had been singing aloud until now. "Sorry I just do that sometimes" he said holding his head down a little smiling shyly. "Don't be, you have a pretty nice voice" I said glancing at him and smiling. I stared singing along to the song and he I noticed him looking with a big grin at me in the rearview mirror that was facing his side a little. He started singing again with me as we looked at each other for a second, I was surprised that he knew every single word of the song as he kept up with me. I had become acquainted with their music from hearing my aunt playing there records everyday, I even put them on for her sometimes when she was too weak to get out of bed and it really helped her feel a little better. "where did you learn that song?" I inquired smiling at him as the song ended. "My dad had the record with this song on it but I can remember the name of it" he said brushing his hair from his eyes smiling at me. "The aftermath album" I said smiling at him. "Yeah how did you know?" he asked smiling. "My aunt was a huge fan" I said smiling at him as I turned onto the street where we were going to drop all this stuff off to charity. "Oh" he said smiling. "well here we are" I said pulling up in front of the building. Chase smiled at me and undid his seat belt and opened the door and got out, I pressed the button to open the trunk and checked for traffic before opening my door. I went to the back of the car where Chase already had the trunk open taking the boxes out and setting them down on the ground. "why don't you grab those in the back seat" I said to him. "Okay" he replied smiling and went to the backdoor and opened it and started taking the boxes out. I stacked two boxes on top each other and followed him into the building as he was carrying one of the boxes in from the backseat. We spoke to a lady who was really friendly thanking us for the contributions before we went back outside to get the rest of the boxes. "You're really strong do you work out" Chase said to me smiling as we walked back to the car. "They really weren't that heavy" I said chuckling still the same skinny white boy with brown hair and eyes to match not having changed from seven years ago. I stacked up two more of the boxes as I smiled amused looking at Chase who was trying to do the same with the last two boxes from the back seat. "Don't hurt yourself" I said chuckling as I walked back through the door with Chase struggling in front of me. "I won't and besides they're not that heavy" Chase said huffing as he struggled with the two boxes. I couldn't help but chuckle a little as I though him trying to display his strength was somehow for my benefit so that he could show me how strong he was. Chase dropped the boxes at the desk the woman we spoke to earlier panting bending over as he put his hands on his knees. "Are you okay there?" I heard the woman ask him with a smile as I approached them. "Yeah I'm fine " he said standing upright wiping his forehead as he worked up a little sweat from carrying the boxes. I passed the two boxes I was carrying over the counter to the woman and smiled at Chase as he was still breathing deeply smiling at me with his black hair sticking to his forehead a little. I picked up the other two boxes he had brought inside and was surprised at how heavy they both really were it was nothing for me to lift them but to a twelve year old it would be pretty heavy. As I passed them to the woman too I smiled at him impressed at his strength carrying them all the way from the car into the building without stopping to rest. "Hey how about an Ice cream, it's pretty hot" I said as we walked back to the car. "Yeah sure" he replied with a smile. we got back in the car and headed over to dairy queen to get the ice cream, I bought chase the flavor he wanted and got one for myself. Rather than driving and trying to eat at the same time we stayed at dairy queen and enjoyed our ice creams there. After we were done with our frozen treat we got back in the car and headed home enjoying the warm weather of one of the last days of summer. "Thanks for the ice cream" Chase said smiling at me as I drove up into the driveway when we got back home. "Anytime" I said smiling at him as I set the parking brake and he took off his seat belt. "See you later" he said with a smile as he opened the door and got out. "Later" I said smiling at him as he before he started walking back to his yard. He looked back and waved to me as I got out of the car before he walked up the two steps that led to the porch and went inside. I unlocked the door and went inside tossing my keys on the coffee table and sat down on the couch to relax for a few minutes. Not being one to procrastinate I got up and went upstairs to get my computer to start working on my book. I had transformed my idea into a story and all that was left was for me to start writing it. After I got my computer I went back downstairs and powered it up and went to work the first few pages were nothing. I had never had ideas flow so smoothly before as they were now as I found my creativity had seemed to have grown just as my professor at college had told me it would. But I guess it should be no surprise to me as this story I was writing I incorporated a lot of my life and myself into the title character. using the city of New York my home and my birth place as the setting made it even easier to describe the environment and atmosphere of the Story. As I continued writing I couldn't help but think of my aunt as the story I was telling was loosely based on our life. This book which I had planned on calling "A little boy lost" was about a woman who had found a little boy wandering all alone and had adopted him as her son. It wasn't all that different form my aunt adopting me and raising me as her own child which she didn't have to do but did anyway out of love for my mother and me. I was so taken up in this story hours seemed to pass as minutes, I stopped only once to have lunch before I lost myself in the world I was creating within this story. I soon ran into a problem in describing the little boy in the story, even though this story was some what based on my life I didn't want the description of the boy to be me as I felt that would make it seem too autobiographical. The doorbell interrupted me from my writing and I smiled as I already knew who the visitor outside was, I put down my laptop on the couch and got up to answer the door. "Piano lessons?" I asked when I opened the door seeing Chase smiling up at me. "Yeah" he said with a little chuckle. "Come on in" I said chuckling as I held the door open for him. "I'm not bothering you am I?" Chase asked as we walked back into the living room. "Nah I needed a break anyway I've been writing since we got back this morning" I said to him as he sat down on the end of the couch. I sat back down and picked up my computer as Chase turned on the TV and sat back in the couch. "Do you mind if I watch TV?" he asked looking at me. "Nah go ahead" I said smiling at him as I tried to come up with a unique description of this kid for my story. Chase smiled at me and turned his attention to the TV flipping through channels, I glanced at him running different description through my mind and then it hit me why not use him. Even though the boy in the story I was writing about was only five chase was perfect for my description. His thick black hair that seemed to hide his expressive piercing blue eyes and his pale Complexion that suggested he wasn't an outdoor type of boy. I glanced at Chase and quickly started typing incorporating all his features into the boy in my story. My typing drew Chase's attention as I glanced at him and noticed him smiling as he watched my fingers on the keyboard, I smiled at him and continued typing finishing half of the first chapter of my book. "wow you sure can type fast" Chase said to me as I as saving the pages I already typed. "Only after a lot of practice" I said smiling as I closed the lid of my laptop and put it down on the couch. He smiled at me and we talked for a while before we found an interesting movie that we watched passing the afternoon away. We went over to his house around six as his grandmother told him to let me know that she was expecting me for dinner again that evening. After dinner I hung out with him in his room for a while and he told me all about where he used to live before minus any details about his parents. I wondered why it was that he and his grandmother didn't talk about his parents but I figured if they wanted me to know they would tell me when they felt like it. I said goodbye to Chase around nine o'clock and I could tell that he was a bit disappointed that I was leaving by the look on his face. He walked me downstairs and I said goodbye to his grandmother thanking her for dinner before I left. When I got home I was overwhelmed by a sudden spell of sleepiness which was a surprise to me since I usually went to bed around twelve or a little after. My body needed sleep and I was not one to argue, I went upstairs and stripped down to my boxers and flopped down on my bed and went right to sleep. when I awoke next morning I was well rested and ready to face the day which was a surprise to me, maybe there's something to this going to bed early stuff after all I thought looking up at the ceiling. I remember my aunt begging me to go to bed early when I was younger and smiled as I remembered the hard time I gave her when it came to bed time. After all what kid likes going to bed at eight when all the fun stuff happens later, my thoughts of my past were interrupted by the doorbell downstairs. "Chase" I said chuckling to myself as I threw back the covers and climbed out of bed and headed downstairs. "You're up" he said smiling as I opened the door. "Yep" I said smiling as I held the door open for him. "I had to ring the doorbell like ten times yesterday before you answered the door" he said smiling at me. "Sorry about that" I said apologizing to him as I had no idea he had been outside that long yesterday. "It's no problem besides you were asleep and all" he said smiling at me. "I'm gonna take a quick shower okay" I said to him before I went up the stairs leaving him sitting on the couch. "Take your time" he yelled back making me smile as I climbed the stairs knowing that my hand had a date with my dick in the shower already getting hard as I went up the steps. After I finished showing and having one of the most fulfilling jerk off session I had ever had I walked back to my room drying my hair. "CHASE!" I said shocked to see him standing there. "I'm sorry" he said immediately apologizing but not before getting a good look at my semi erect uncut dick. "I just wanted to check out your room and I thought you would be in the shower longer" he said holding his head down. "It's okay" I said noticing him glancing up at my dick again before I wrapped my towel around my waist. "You mean you're not mad?" he said looking up at me with a questioning look on his face. "why would I be mad we're both guys aren't we and it's not the first time you've seen my dick" I said reminding him of the little incident yesterday. He looked up at me and blushed a little as I smiled back at him staring at his blue eyes that were half covered by his black hair. I noticed his face had gotten red and his hand went down over his crotch as he smiled nervously at me. "Um ...Can I use your bathroom I really gotta go" he said smiling. "Yeah sure go ahead" I said smiling at him before he left. I pulled of my towel and smiled as I continued drying myself, I couldn't be mad at Chase for his curiosity but I did suspect that he wanted that to happen which was why he came up to my room in the first place. I remember trying to sneak a peak at guys older than me at gym class and in public restrooms when I was the same age as Chase. My aunt never told me about puberty and the changes and the feeling that I would have during that ordeal that everyone has to go through to become an adult. What I knew about sex was from what I heard at school or read in books and on television and my own personal experiences that I had with both boys and girls. But above all that most of my sexual education came from a boy that was my best friend that lived across the street before he moved away when we were both thirteen. His name was Charlie and he was the one that taught me about jacking off passing the knowledge that his big brother shared with him to me. At the time being eleven then I thought that my first dry orgasm was the greatest thing I had ever felt in my entire life. Our sexual play continued and grew from just jacking off together to jacking off each other and eventually oral sex which we both did for each other once and then he moved away. >From then on my interests shifted to girls and had been there from then on until, my experiences with Charlie did make me question my sexuality at time as there were moments I wished we could have taken it further. I finished drying off and got dressed and wondered what was keeping Chase as he had been in the bathroom for some time now. I started smiling to myself as I went to see what was keeping him and head soft gasps and moans coming from the bathroom and knew exactly what he was up to so to speak. I left him to his business of pleasuring himself something that every boy did and needed to do I guess and went back to my bedroom to brush my hair. He came back to my bedroom about a minute later and I smiled as his usually pale cheeks were a bright pink from his sexual release. "I thought you got lost in there" I said jokingly not letting him know I knew what he had been doing in the bathroom. "Uh.....I guess I had to do other stuff too" he said as his cheeks got even redder as he smiled. "When you got to go you got to go" I said smiling going along with his story. I had to say this much Chase was a lot braver than I was as I had never masturbated anywhere except in the privacy of my bedroom or the shower when I was his age having never overcome the fear of being caught. "what do you say we got and have some of your grandma breakfast" I said smiling at him as I was feeling really hungry now. Chase smiled at me and we went down stairs and headed over to his grandmother's house for breakfast. "Finally where were you two" Chase's grandmother said as we came into the kitchen. "Sorry totally my fault I was in the shower" I said as Chase and I sat down at the table she smiled at me. "I think I'll have to get you an alarm clock" she said chuckling as she put a plate of ham and eggs in front of Chase. "I think you better get a bell instead" I said making Chase laugh as she served me next. "Mmmmmm this is really good" I said tasting the ham and eggs making Chase and his grandmother smile, it had been so long since I had ham and eggs that were this good. After breakfast I thank Mrs. Mitchell for the meal and smiled at Chase knowing that I would see him later that afternoon before I left. When I got home I got my computer and went back to writing my book, I decide to give the story a little twist. I didn't want my first book to seem to dark and moody my life had enough of that, so I decide that the little boy pretended to be an alien when asked where he was from. As I continued writing I really enjoy developing the character of the little boy in the story who pretended to be an alien called Zark. My writing went unimpeded until around three o' clock when I heard the doorbell making me smile as I knew it was Chase. "Come on in" I said to him when I answered the door. Chase smiled and came inside and we walked back to the living room and sat down. "Hey I'd like you to read something and tell me what you think" I said looking at Chase. One thing I never did was let people read what I was writing before I was finished, but I thought Chase deserved to since I had based the title character on him. "What is it?" he asked moving closer to me on the couch with a smile. "It's the first few pages of my book I want to know what you think" I said smiling at him as I passed my computer over to him. I knew a twelve's year old opinion was different from an adult's but I wondered what he would think of it. I glanced at him as he chuckled at what was no doubt the few humorous parts that I had written as he read my work. Chase really surprised me at how fast he read which I though was above average for a twelve year old. Then I remembered his paintings that he showed me and was reminded that Chase was no average twelve year old. "So what do you think?" I asked nervously eager to know if he liked it or not. "It's great I really liked the little boy Zark" he said chuckling as he passed my computer back to me. "Really I said a bit shocked as I expected him to be bored by what he read as it read wasn't intended for his age group. I was even more surprised when Chase told me all the parts that he really liked and realized he really did pay attention to what he read. "Is this story about you?" he asked which really shocked me. "A little " I said smiling as I never expected him to pick up on that, as he really didn't know me that well after all we had only gotten to know each other a little over the last three days. "Why do you ask?" I said wondering just how he figured that out. "I don't know I just thought about what my grandmother told me about you and it seemed to be a little like your story" he said smiling. I was surprised that he had been asking his grandmother about what she knew about me but it wasn't all that strange if I was him I like to know as much as I could about some one I hung out with. "I have to tell you some thing about Zark I modeled him after you" I said looking at him hoping that he didn't mind. "For real" Chase said as I saw the biggest smile from him to date. "You don't mind do you because I can change it if you want" I said looking at him. "No I don't mind I think it's great" he said still smiling from ear to ear. I smiled at him happy that I had his approval and saved the pages I had written and closed my laptop and settled in for an afternoon of TV with Chase. we watched TV up until about half past five before we decided to go over to his house to be early for dinner after we were already late for breakfast this morning. I also decided to go over early and help her out with dinner I didn't want her to think I was a freeloader, but she was having none of it. Chase took me up to his room and we hung out for a while, he showed me a couple more of his paintings which were just as astounding as the ones I had seen before. I could tell just by looking at his painting that he would be really famous one day we talked for a while and Chase told me a little about his dad being an accountant. I was really glad that he was beginning to trust me by telling me a little about his father it wasn't a lot but it was a start. His grandmother called us down to dinner around six thirty I reminded him of his grandmother's medication so that he wouldn't have to come all the way back up here again for them. we had dinner laughing and talking together and I have to say at first I was opposed to coming back home after college, but now I see it was the right decision getting to know Chase and also getting reacquainted with his grandmother after four years. The rest of the week followed pretty much the same routine, I had breakfast and dinner with Chase and his grandmother and worked on my book during the day and spent the afternoons watching TV with Chase. By the time the next week rolled in I was well into the second chapter of my book which was going more smoothly than I expected. Chase paid me more visits sometimes spending the entire day with me and I would have to say I really enjoyed his company and he was quickly becoming my best friend. A lot of people would say that it's strange that I had a twelve year old for my best friend, but this twelve year old was much more intelligent than most of the friends I had during college and the adults I knew. I found out that we had a lot in common particularly Chinese food when I took Chase and his grandmother out to dinner one night. Chase's grandmother was really amused watching the both of us eat saying that we were gonna put the restaurant out of business. After we got home I said goodbye to them and went home and went to bed full of Chinese food planning what I had to do tomorrow before I fell asleep. The next day I had breakfast with Chase and his grandmother as usual I finished chapter two of my book. As the afternoon came I thought about going out to dinner tonight and perhaps even seeing a movie, all the movies I've seen were on TV and I thought a night out was a welcomed change of pace. I thought I might even run into someone I knew on even maybe meet a hot chick and get some action so to speak. The more I though about that happen I though hell freezing over seemed more likely to happen as luck seemed to smile on every one but me. I finished the last page I was writing and decide to go over to Mrs. Mitchell's house and let her know not to expect me for dinner. "Hello Randy what brings you bye so early" She said smiling at me as she put down her knitting taking her glasses off smiling at me. "Oh I just stopped by to let you know I won't be over for dinner tonight" I said smiling a her. "That's too bad" she said sounding a little disappointed which made me a little surprised that my company meant so much to her. "Hi Randy" Chase said coming down the steps from his bedroom a few second later probably hearing my voice from upstairs. "Hey Da Vinci working on another masterpiece" I said chuckling at him as his pants and his t-shirt were spotted with paint. "Not really" he said smiling rubbing his cheek where there was a long blue streak of paint. "Randy won't be over for dinner tonight" his grandmother said to him as I saw his smile quickly disappear. "why not?" he asked looking at me worriedly. "well I was thinking of going out tonight maybe to see a movie" I said as I started feeling bad as I saw the look of disappointment on his face. "Oh" he said dejectedly holding his head down. "why don't you come with me" I said as I hated seeing him looking so sad. "Really?" he said lifting his head as his blue eyes brightened. "Can I grandma?" he asked looking at her with hope filled eyes. "Sure why not" she said smiling at him. His smile seemed to encompass his whole face as I couldn't help but laugh as I looked at him. "Be ready by six okay" I said smiling at him. "Okay thanks Randy" he said still smiling from ear to ear. "Hey what are friends for" I said looking at him as he giggled. I said goodbye to his grandmother and went back home to sort through my clothes for something to wear later. After I got dressed I went over to Chase's house around six o'clock to see if he was ready. He was just coming down the stair when I got there and gave me a big smile as he came down into he living room where I was talking to his grandmother. I assured her that we were going to come straight home after the movie was over not that she asked about that but I wanted to make her know that she could trust me. Chase's grandmother gave him some spending money and we said goodbye to her and left, he waited at the side of the driveway while I got the car out of the garage. He climbed in and smiled at me pulling on his seat belt as I slowly backed out of the driveway, I glanced at Chase out of the corner of my eye and smiled. I could tell he spent some time getting ready as his jet black hair was neatly brushed and he was wearing a pair of dark blue cargo shorts and a black t-shirt that matched the color of his hair. "what do you think we should have for dinner pizza or more Chinese" I asked as we drove along. "I think pizza is better if we have Chinese again I don't think we are gonna leave the restaurant this time" he said chuckling. I smiled at him in total agreement, there was just something about Chinese food that I couldn't get enough of and the same was true for chase. we stopped at pizza hut and had a pizza with mushrooms, pepperoni, pineapple which Chase said he liked and a whole lot of cheese, I had never had pineapple topping on pizza before but I found out it wasn't bad. After we had shared our pizza we headed to the movie theater to catch the seven o'clock show. I let Chase chose the movie as what I would have picked to see was probably not a movie meant for kids. We went to the cafeteria to get some popcorn and drinks that Chase insisted on paying for since I had paid for the pizza and the tickets. It seemed to mean a lot to him to pay for the snacks so I agreed to let him pay for them, I guess he wanted to feel like he contributed something for the night. we went into the dark theater and found a couple of good seat and sat down waiting for the movie to start. I glanced at chase a couple of times during the movie as he seemed to be lost in another world engrossed in the movie. After the movie ended we got back to the car and headed back home as I saw Chase glancing at me every now and then smiling to himself. we got back home around nine thirty and I would have to say that spending the night out with chase turned out to be better than if I went out alone. "So did you have a good time tonight?" I asked smiling at him as I set the parking brake and turned off the engine when I drove up into the garage. "Yeah the best" he said smiling broadly at me. "Thanks for taking me out with you tonight Randy" Chase said smiling at me. "Sure anytime" I said with a smile before I took off my seat belt and opened the door. Chase got out of the car after me and we walked out of the garage, I closed the garage door and walked over to his house with him to say good night to his grandmother. "How was the movie boys" she said to us as we went inside and found her in the living room undoubtedly waiting for us. "It was great" Chase said smiling at her. "He wasn't any trouble I hope" his grandmother said looking at him. "Nah" I said smiling as he looked at me. "You guys have a good night" I said to them before I left. "Don't be late for breakfast in the morning" Chase's grandmother reminded me as he walked me to the door. "I won't" I said back smiling. "see you in the morning" I said smiling before I left as I knew he'd come over first thing in the morning as he usually did. "Bye Randy" Chase said giving me a hug, I was a little surprised as this was the first time he had ever done that but I just smiled and went along with it as I figured it was his way of thanking me for taking him out. I broke off our embrace and smiled at him before I left, when I got home I went upstairs and stripped down to my boxers brushed my teeth and went to bed looking forward to tomorrow. The next day Chase spent most of the morning with me after we had breakfast together, he left around ten o'clock as he told me he was going along with his grandmother to the doctor. I was a little worried that she might have been sick but Chase assured me that it was just a check up. I worked on my book mostly or the rest of the day writing a few pages of chapter three stopping only to have a sandwich for lunch. I went out to the small back yard the house had for some fresh air to finish writing around three o'clock in the afternoon and I found Chase and his grandmother out in there back yard as well. I smiled as I saw Chase had his canvas and easel set up and his grandmother was evidently the subject of the painting he was working on. I stood quietly watching him as he painted unaware that I was looking at him. "Hi Randy" he said looking up as he spotted me. "Oh hello there Randy" his grandmother said as she was oblivious to my presence as well. "Posing for da Vinci wow you're lucky" I said as walked over to the excuse for a fence that separated our yards. Chase looked at me and giggled at my comment as I noticed streaks of different color paint on his face. "You hang out with Randy I have stuff to do" his grandmother said to him as she got up from where she was sitting. "But grandma I'm not done yet" Chase protested. "I'll come back later, why don't you paint Randy instead" she said smiling at me before she left. "Your subject isn't very cooperative is she" I said smiling at him. "Yeah" he said smiling as he walked up to the fence. "You still working on your book?" he asked looking at me with a little smile. "Yeah I came out here to get some air" I said to him with a smile. "Oh I won't bother you then" he replied. "Who says you're bothering me" I said to him with a little smirk that I was sure he noticed. "So you don't mind if I come over?" he asked looking at me. "Nope suit yourself" I said walking away from the fence taking a seat on one of the chairs in the back yard. My aunt spent a lot of time on admiring her rose garden that I was sad to say died from neglect as there was no one to water and take care of them after she died. I powered up my laptop just as Chase there a drawing pad and a box of pencils over the fence before jumping over the fence himself. "Hey are you okay?" I said chuckling a little as he landed on the grass with a soft thud. "Yeah I'm fine' he said smiling standing up and dusting himself off a little. The fence wasn't all that high but I guess he didn't pay much attention to his landing which resulted in him falling when he jumped over. He picked up his drawing pad and his pencils and sat down on the picnic table in the yard that my aunt and I had a lot of picnics at during the summer when I was younger. I smiled at Chase as he opened up his drawing pad and took out one of the pencils from the box he had with him. Chase smiled at me as the sun made his jet black hair shine, I smiled at back at him and started typing as he proceeded with his drawing. we stayed out there well into late afternoon as the sun was going down I had several pages of chapter three of my book written while Chase was still busy drawing. I saved my work deciding to call it a day as my fingers were a bit sore from all that writing. "So you finished drawing my picture yet?" I asked smiling at Chase as I closed my laptop. "Almost" he said looking up at me with a smile. I got up from my seat and put my laptop down on it and started walking over to him as his hand was still working furiously on the drawing pad. "Done" he said smiling at me as I approached him. I sat down on the picnic table next to him as he smiled up at me as the setting sun made his eyes sort of glow. "So what have you been working on" I said smiling as he handed me the drawing pad. "wow" I said as I opened the drawing pad and was staring at myself. "I don't think that one came out so good I made your eyes too small" Chase said smiling at me as he turned over the page to another picture of me. "This one I made your lips too pouty" Chase said with a little giggled as he turned the page to another picture. "what about this one" I asked glancing at him. "I think your hair doesn't fall right" he said smiling up at me. I smiled looking at him a bit amazed that anyone paid that much attention to me, but he was an artist and artists are perfectionists. "This one looks much more like you he said smiling at me" as he turned the page to another picture he drew of me. "so what do you think?" he asked looking at me for my opinion of his artistic representation of me. "I think they're all great" I said smiling at him as I looked back at all the pictures he drew of me. I leafed through his drawing pad looking at some of his other drawing of birds a couple of plants and a picture of his grandmother looking over her glasses with a smile on her face. "Oh you two are still out here" Chase's grandmother said as she opened the back door and poked her head out smiling at us sitting on the picnic table. "Dinner will be read in a while" she said smiling at us. "We'll be over in a second" I said to her smiling back before she pulled her had back in and closed the door. I handed Chase his drawing pad as he put away his pencils in the box and jumped off the table as I got up as well. "I think you better use the door this time" I said to him as he was about to jump back over the fence. He smiled at me showing his teeth and walked over to me, I picked up my computer and Chase followed me inside carrying his drawing pad and his pencils. "Why don't you go on ahead I'll be over in a second" I said to him as I wanted to freshen up a little. "Okay don't take too long" he said giving me a smile before he left. I freshened up and changed my shirt and headed over to Chase's house where his grandmother had a deck of cards on the living room table. "Poker night?" I asked with a smile as I entered the kitchen. "Oh no bridge" she said laughing as Chase smiled at me a she was setting the table. "Do you mind if Chase stays over until my game is over?" Mrs. Mitchell asked smiling at me. He stopped what he was doing and looked at me with a smile as he probably already knew what I was going to say. "Sure no problem" I said smiling at Chase. "Oh good, he gets so bored on bridge night" she said smiling at him. I couldn't blame him what twelve year old boy would want to spend the night listening to a bunch of old ladies talking about knitting patterns and different types of tea while they played bridge. After we had dinner Chase and I did the dishes and talked about what we were going to do while he was over at my place. We figured that we'd probably watch a movie on TV and decided to head over to my place before his grandmother's guests arrived. Just as we got to the door we came face to face with two of them as we were about to leave. "Hello there young man" one of them said smiling at me. "Uh.... hi" I said smiling at her. "Clara, Emmy this is Judy's nephew Randy" Mrs. Mitchell said smiling as she introduced me to her Bridge partners. "Oh my look how you have grown" one of them said smiling at me as she started pinching my cheek. I had thought I had out grown the cheek pinching when I was twelve but that wasn't the case as the other one showed my other cheek no mercy as she too joined in on the pinching. "Oh how are you Chasey" one of them who was named Clara spotted Chase as he had been trying to hide himself behind me knowing that he was next when they were done with me. "Come here cutie" the other one said to Chase. I smiled as he dragged his feet going over to her as he knew what was coming. I really tried not to laugh as I saw the look on his face as the one named Emmy pinched his cheek. "You're so cute" the other one said as she joined in with the cheek pinching. "You boys better be on your way" Chase grandmother said smiling saving us both from another round of facial torture. "Bye grandma" Chase said as he bolted out the door. "Nice seeing you Randy" his grandmother's friends said smiling at me as I walked out the door. "You too" I said before they closed the door. "DAMN those old ladies pinch hard" I said rubbing my cheeks as they both felt like they were on fire. "It's a good thing we left before the other two showed up they pinch even harder" Chase said as I looked at him rubbing his cheeks as well. we got to my place still rubbing our cheeks a little that were still hurting from all the pinching, I don't think old women knew just how strong they were. I left Chase sitting on the couch and went into the kitchen to make us some popcorn for whatever movie we ended up watching. when I came back to the living room Chase had found superman two showing on TV, I sat down and passed the bowl of popcorn to him. "This is like one of my favorite movies I think superman is great" Chase said smiling at me as he took up a handful of popcorn. "I think Batman is cooler" I said taking a handful of popcorn too. "Batman is okay but superman can fly" Chase said pointing out a key difference between the two heroes. "Yeah but Batman has a really cool car and some really great gadgets" I said as we talked while the opening credits were rolling. "I still think superman is better he can't get hurt like Batman can" Chase said which was true. I couldn't help but read more into what he said about superman not being able to get hurt by the way he said it. The credits ended and the movie got underway as we munched on the popcorn, I left for a second to get us some sodas and came back just as the evil kryptonians showed up. I had seen this movie before when I was a kid and it was a really great film but I still liked Batman more because of his humanity and the realism of what he went through that made him become the dark knight. After the movie ended we flipped through a few channels and ended up watching south park, as the show went on Chase became really silent and I looked over at him and smiled as he had fallen asleep. I pulled the blanket that was on the couch over him as he stirred a little but didn't wake up before I lowered the volume on the TV and continued watching the south park gang. The doorbell rang a few minutes later and I knew it was Chase's grandma come to get him after her bridge game was over. "You boys had a nice time together?" she asked smiling at me. "Yeah so nice Chase fell asleep on me" I said smiling at her. "I'm sorry our game ran so late but you know what they say time flies when you're having fun" she said smiling. "I'll get him for you" I said smiling at her as I went to wake up Chase. "Hey buddy, your grandma is here to take you home" I said as I gently shook him away. "Hmmmm what" Chase said yawning and rubbing his eyes as he sat up throwing the blanket off. "Your grandma's game is over" I said smiling at him as he looked at me with sleepy eyes. He got up almost falling back down on the couch a bit disoriented as I had to hold him up a little. When he regained his balance we walked over to the door where his grandmother was standing waiting on him. "Can't I spend the night here grandma?" Chase asked with another big yawn. "I think we already bothered Randy enough" his grandmother said which was a relief to me as the only habitable bedroom in the house was my own and I didn't want Chase to have to sleep on the couch. "Maybe some other time huh" I said smiling at him. "Well okay see ya" he said walking out the door taking another yawn. "see you guys tomorrow" I said to them as they walked off, I watched them until they were in the door before I went in myself and headed up to bed. The following Thursday which was his grandmother's bridge night we decided to go out instead of staying at home watching TV. Chase suggested we grab a pizza and go bowling afterward, if I knew how much of a good bowler he was I never would have agreed to go bowling with him. I won about two games and Chase won the rest, we got back home just as his grandmother's game had ended narrowly escaping a cheeks pinching session with his grandmother's friends. The following day after we had breakfast Chase came by after he and his grandmother went shopping for clothes for him as school would be starting in the coming week. I could tell that there was something he wanted to ask me as he kept glancing at me and turning off and smiling went I caught him looking at me when I glanced at him while I was writing. "So what do you want to ask me?" I said to him stopping my typing and putting down my laptop to find out hat was on his mind. "Huh?" he said looking a bit shocked, but we had spent so much time together I could tell when something was worrying him. "what's on your mind?" I asked looking at him. "Nothing" he replied pretended that there was nothing wrong. "You sure?" I asked looking at him. "Uh-huh" he replied . "Okay then" I said picking back up my computer from the couch. "well there is something I want to ask you" he said just as I was about to start typing again. "Okay shoot" I said smiling at him. "I was wondering if I uh ....Um... If I could spend the night tonight" he said meekly looking at me for my response. "Is that all I though you wanted me to help you rob a bank or something" I said jokingly making Chase laugh. "So can I?" he asked. "Sure if it's okay with you grandma" I said smiling at him. "she'll be okay with it" he said confidently. "Alright but be sure to ask her okay" I said to him not wanting to cause any problems with his grandmother who had been more than kind to me. "Yeah I will you can continue writing now" he said turning back to the TV with a smile. I smiled at him and continued with my writing thinking of how different Chase was from other kids his age. Later that night after we had dinner at his house and with his grandmother's permission Chase came back over with me to spend the night. I had already got the guest room set up for him so we just relaxed and watched TV enjoying each other's company. we decided to call it a night around quarter to eleven, I reminded Chase that his grandmother said to take a bath before bed which made him blush a little. I had to take a shower myself so I left him watching a movie that he said he wanted to see how it ended before taking his bath. After the movie ended he came up to my bedroom with a bag with his stuff for overnight. He took out a towel a pair of boxers and his toothbrush giving me a smile as I was drying my hair before he left the room. I went back to the guest room I had set up for him after I had finished drying my hair wearing only my boxers to make sure he had a blanket for the night, even though it was summer this old house got really cold at night sometimes. "well your room is ready" I said to Chase as he came out of the bathroom in a pair of striped boxers. "Hey what the matter" I asked as he looked a little confused. "I thought I was gonna sleep in your room with you" he said sounding a bit disappointed. "Oh" I said looking at the expression of sadness on his face. "well It's okay if you want to" I said looking at him. I thought that I would be disappointed and even a little scared sleeping in a house that I didn't know in a room all by myself. "Really?" he asked as his eyes lit up. "Yeah sure why not" I said smiling at him. "come on" I said as I closed the door and we walked back to my room. "You don't mind if I sleep in only my boxers do you?" he asked looking at me as were back in my room and I closed the door. "Nah I sleep in mine too" I said walking over to my bed pulling back the covers. I glanced back at Chase and smiled as I saw a tent in the front of his boxers that hugged his body rather snuggly making his boner all the more visible. "Sorry" He said blushing as his hands went down over his crotch. "You don't have to apologize it's perfectly normal" I said smiling at him. "Uh...I forgot to brush my teeth" he said making a hasty exit out the door. I climbed into my bed and smiled to myself as I knew he was going to the bathroom to jack off. when he came back he smiled at me after taking care of business and took off the light and climbed into bed with me and got under the covers. "Uh...Randy can I ask you something" he said as we were both lying on our back looking up at the ceiling. "Sure" I replied. "You said you and your girlfriend broke up" he said as I was a little surprised by his question. "Yeah we did, did I tell you that?" I asked not being able to remember having that conversation with him. "Yeah remember when I went to the supermarket with you a few weeks ago you said you guys broke up" he said putting his hands behind his head as I glanced at him. "Speaking of which I have to make some groceries tomorrow" I said just now remembering that I was suppose to go to the supermarket today. "why did you guys break up?" Chase asked getting me back to our conversation. "well I guess she was never happy with who I am" I said flatly. "why not?" he asked looking over at me. "I don't know" I said and that was the truth I tried my best to make my then girlfriend happy but it just wasn't good enough and I'd be lying if I said that I was in love with her. "I guess she wanted a trophy boyfriend who was a lawyer who would then be a judge and eventual run for senate or governor or something" I said making Chase chuckle a little. I wish that it was funny to me but I was down right terrified when she told me of our plans or I should say her plans for our future life together. She was one of those types that needed to be the center of attention and I was the exact opposite, I always though that people that say opposites attract were crazy. "I'm glad you didn't change I like you just as you are" chase said looking at me and smiling. "Thanks" I said smiling feeling all warm inside as that was the nicest thing anyone ever said to me. "well good night" I said turning away from him as it was almost one AM. "Sleep tight" Chase said making me smile as I closed my eyes and tried to sleep. About half an hour passed and I lay in my bed facing away from Chase unable to sleep, it had been a while since I slept with anyone and it felt a bit strange. Just then as I was squeezing my eyes tightly trying to sleep I feel the cover move and Chase slipped out of bed silently and opened the bedroom door quietly and left. I lay there thinking he probably had to pee and went back to thinking of all the thing that made me sleepy hoping that I would fall asleep I thought about calculus as that seemed to be really potent in knocking me out during high school, but it was no dice. Chase came back a few minutes later and slipped back into the room closing the door as quietly as he could and climbing back into bed trying not to disturb me. It wasn't even a good twenty minutes later when he slipped out of bed again and left for the bathroom. I smiled as I though the two sodas he had while we were watching TV were working their way out of his system. He came back after a few minutes and closed the door quietly and climbed back into bed, I looked a the clock at the side of my bed as the numbers glared red it was one thirty five. just as I was settling myself down and my eyes were closing to drift off to dreamland Chase got out of bed again for the third time and left. Now I was getting suspicious peeing three times in lest than an hour no way, I knew he didn't have an overactive bladder as we had spent so much time together I was sure I'd notice frequent trips to the bathroom before now. It wasn't until Chase came back to bed and I got the familiar scent of a hand lotion than my aunt had used did I figure out what his frequent trips to the bathroom was for. I smiled as I lay facing away from him remembering my pubescent years and how often I had jacked off. It wasn't long before Chase got up for trip number four to the bathroom and I chuckled to myself admiring his sexual hunger. After he came back the scent of the rose scented lotion was a lot stronger on him as he climbed back in bed with me. A couple of minutes passed and just when I though he was done for the night he got up for trip number five to the bathroom. "Damn this kid is going to pull his dick off if he keeps this up" I thought to myself. Well at least he had the good sense to used lotion or he would be really sore tomorrow I thought lying in my bed looking at the numbers on the clock glaring two fifteen AM. Chase came back and climbed into bed and sighed softly settling himself down after what I hoped was his last jack off session for the night or I should say morning as it was already a new day. I heard him breathing deeply after a few more minutes and I knew he was asleep. "Well at least one of us can sleep" I said softly turning on my back sighing as I glanced over at his naked shoulder as he was facing away from me. I wasn't mad at him for keeping me up with his frequent trips in and out of bed, in all the time that Chase had spent with me I never got angry at him. There were a few times as rare as they were when I just wanted to be alone sometimes but I was never ever angry with him. I really couldn't believe that he didn't have any friends as I thought he was such a likeable person, but that was just my opinion. The more I thought about it the more it became apparent that Chase was my best friend since I told him things that I never shared with anyone else. A lot of people would have thought it was strange that a twenty two year old would have a twelve year old for his best friend but I had reached a point in my life that I didn't give a flying, running or walking fuck about what people though of me. I looked over at Chase again and pulled the covers up over his shoulders as the chill that the house seemed to develop at night had made it's way into my bedroom. I settled back under the covers with Chase sleeping peacefully next to me before my eyes grew heavy and I finally fell asleep. I awoke the next morning with Chase cuddled up against my chest as I had my arm around him as he was still asleep. I was suddenly aware of his hard morning stiffy pressing into my stomach as I was just as hard as him. The last thing I wanted was for Chase to feel my dick pressing against him, I slowly moved my arm off of him and was moving away from him when he cuddled up closer to me jabbing his hard dick against my stomach. I was trying to move away from him again when he opened his eyes and smiled at me. "sleep well?" I said smiling at him trying to get away from him before he noticed my dick pressing against him. "Mmm-hmm" he sad stretching out his arms and rolling away from me making me breath a sigh of relief. Chase smiled at me and then and I couldn't help but stare at his crotch as his dick tented up in his boxers. He moved a little and yawned as the head of what seemed to be his uncut dick was visible through the opening of his striped boxers. Chase looked down and was suddenly aware of his erected state and saw his exposed dick and quickly covered himself with his hands as his face turned red. "Sorry you had to see my dick hard like that" he said apologizing for his boner. "Chase you don't have to be sorry about having an erection it's totally normal" I said to him as he adjusted his boxers covering his dick. "All guys get boners it a part of life" I said looking at him. "Even when you don't want one?" he asked. "Especially when you don't want one" I said smiling as he started smiling too. "At your age it'll happen a lot as your body is changing" I said as he looked at me. "Yeah I know it's just that....." he said stopping mid sentence. "what?" I said waiting for him to continue as he looked a bit worried. "Never mind" he said looking at me with a smile as he moved his hand from his crotch a bit more comfortable with having a boner in front of me. "Okay then but you better take care of that" I said with a smile pointing at the tent in his boxers making him chuckle. he climbed out of bed and stretched and yawned before he walked to the door. "Don't forget to use the lotion" I said smiling at him. He paused for a minutes as he was reaching for the doorknob I bit my lip as I didn't meant to say that aloud. I thought Chase would be upset but he just turned and smiled at me and left my bedroom. I put my hands behind my head relieved that he wasn't angry with me as I relaxed for a while letting him take care of his business. He came back a few minutes later with a big smile on his face and the tent in front of his boxers gone. I smiled at him and got up off my bed and headed to the bathroom as I really needed to pee badly, after I flushed the toilet I took off my boxers and climbed into the shower and turned on the water. Just as I picked up the soap Chase came back into the bathroom and startled me as I didn't pull back the shower curtain and was standing in front of him in all my naked glory. "Oh sorry" he said smiling. I smiled at him and knew he intentionally came in the bathroom hoping to see me naked. "It's okay" I said making no attempt to cover myself hoping that I would finally satisfy his curiosity. "I came back to brush my teeth I didn't know you were showering I'll come back" he said as I noticed the entire time he was talking to me his blues eyes were centered on my crotch. "It's okay go ahead" I said smiling at him as he was about to leave continuing my shower making no big deal about him seeing me naked. I glanced at Chase and noticed he hadn't moved from where he was standing still staring at me intently. "UH....... Randy can I ask you something" Chase asked after a few seconds looking a bit nervous. "Sure what is it" I said pushing back my wet hair. "UM......Is it okay if I showered with you" he said looking at me catching me completely off guard. "Uh .....Um...I don't think" I stuttered at a complete lot for words. "It's okay I know you don't think it's a good idea" he said sighing and holding his head down. "Alright come on in" I said sighing giving in to his request as I hated seeing that dejected look on his face. "You mean it's okay" he said as his face lit up with a big smile. "Hurry up or we'll be late for breakfast" I said to him with a smile. Chase had his stripped boxers down in a flash and joined me in the showed with a huge smile on his face. I smiled at him as I handed him the soap and concentrated on lathering the shampoo up in my hair. Chase looked up at me with a smile as he soaped himself up as I couldn't help but admire his wet nude body that was devoid of any hair safe for his thick wet kinda bowl shaped black mane that stuck to his forehead. He was uncircumcised just I was as I stared at him, Chase had told me before that he wasn't to much into sports but he was pretty lean for someone not into a lot of physical activity. "Will you shampoo my hair for me" he asked handing me back the soap with a smile. "Okay turn around" I said as I put the soap back in the dish. He turned around with his back to me as I got the bottle of shampoo and smiled looking as his pale round little butt. I poured out some of the shampoo in his thick wet hair and worked it up in his scalp as he closed his eyes and tilted his head back a little. "All done" I said slapping him on his wet butt cheeks making him jump a little before pushing him under the water. "I'll get you for that" he said smiling as he rinsed the soap from his body and the shampoo from his hair. After he finished rinsing himself off he stepped aside and I got under the water and rinsed off, I turned off the water after I was done and we got out and started drying off. As I turned to look at myself in the mirror drying my hair a little I felt a sharp sting on my butt as Chase had slapped me and ran to the door giggling. "Told you I'd get ya" he said with a wicked smile. "Oh yeah" I said chuckling as I Chased after him as he ran out of the bathroom laughing. I caught him in the bedroom and tickled him down to a laughing heap on the bed, I sat down on the bed next to him and smiled as he lay there with a smile on his face panting trying to catch his breath. "Can I tell you something" he said sitting up and smiling at me. "Sure you can tell me anything" I said looking at him as I finished drying my hair. "I wanted to ask you to shower with me last night but I was afraid you'd be mad and tell me I couldn't spend the night" he said blushing a little. "I could never be mad at you" I said smiling at him. "You're my best friend" I said shoving him by the shoulder playfully. "Really?" he said as he gave me a smile. "Yeah" I said smiling at him as he smiled. "You're my best friend too" he said smiling at me brushing his damp hair out of his eyes. "I wish we were brothers" Chase said smiling at me after a second. I smiled back at him as I felt the same way ,I felt like Chase was the little brother I always wanted but never had. "Come on let's get dressed or we'll be late for breakfast" I said smiling at him as we were both still very naked. After we got dressed we went over to his house where his grandmother already had breakfast waiting for us. Chase went to the supermarket with me after we had breakfast and helped me with my shopping. Between shopping and paying the bills I realized that my saving were quickly dwindling and I'd probably have to get a job besides being a writer. When we got back home after grocery shopping Chase went home for a while giving me a chance to work on my book. Chase came over later that afternoon and we enjoyed our time together as we both knew with school starting on Monday we wouldn't be seeing much of each other. We ate out that night and saw a movie together as my treat to Chase as he wasn't too happy about going back to school on Monday. Chase spent most of Sunday at my house that passed rather quickly and before I knew it was Monday and the first day of the school. It was kind of strange not having breakfast with Chase and his grandmother as that had become our usual routine. I worked on my book and I had to say I really missed having Chase over during the day, I really looked forward to three thirty when school would be out to see him again. A little after three thirty my doorbell rang and I smiled and put down my computer and went to the door already knowing who it was. I opened the door and sure enough there he was still with his back pack on smiling up at me. "come on in I" said smiling at him. "Thanks" he said taking his back pack off and leaving it at the door as we walked back to the living room. "So how was your first day back" I asked as we sat down on the couch. "Okay I guess" he said unenthusiastically. we talked for about an hour before Chase left to check in with his grandmother, he came back around six thirty after finishing his homework to remind me about dinner. I smiled happy to know that at least one thing hadn't changed, I saved my work and washed up and headed over to his house with him for dinner. when we finished having dinner I helped Chase with the dishes before I went back home. I got a lot of writing done the next day as Chase wasn't around to distract me but I still missed having him around. Just as I was finishing up chapter four of my book the doorbell rang I was a little shocked that it was already after three as I looked at the time on my computer. I opened the door and Chase was there looking at me with a smile, I let him in and we went back to the living room and he told me about some of what happened at school. "well I guess you better be going home to get started on your homework" I said to him after he had been there a little over an hour. "I don't have to, I asked my grandma if I could hang out with you after school and she said it was okay" he said looking at me with a little smile. "You don't mind do you" he asked just now thinking about if it was okay with me. I smiled looking at the expression on his face and told him it fine with me, but he had to do his home work first if he was gonna hang out with me, I didn't want him neglecting his studies just so he could spend time with me. Chase didn't have any problem with what I said and he got off the couch and went and got his back pack from where he left it to get started on his home work. I told him if he needed any help just let me know and he smiled at me and when about his studies as I went back to my writing. we fell into a pretty normal routine as Chase would check in with his grandmother when he got home from school and then come over to my house and do his homework and we would watch TV together until dinner time. Everything was going like clockwork with us until about a week later when Chase came home from school and came straight over to my house after school. It was Thursday and I was really looking forward to later that afternoon, Chase and I had already planed out the evening to watch a couple of DVD's and order a pizza as it was his grandmother's bridge night. When I opened the door and looked at him I could tell that he had been in a fight as his clothes were dirty and his hair was messed up. "Are you okay?" I asked looking at him with great concern. "Yeah I'm fine I just fell that's all" he said making no big deal of his appearance let him in and we walked over to the living room. "Can I use your bathroom to get cleaned up a little?" he asked looking at me. "Sure go ahead" I said to him as he went up the stairs to get cleaned up. After he cleaned himself up a little he came back down and told me he was going to check in with his grandmother and be right back. Chase came back over having changed out of his clothes and sat down on the couch and did his homework. I kept glancing at him as I continued my writing wondering just what had happened, I wasn't going to make a big deal about it as he didn't seem to be bothered and continued with my work. Chase and I spent the evening together watching a couple of movies he brought over with him over pizza, we talked for a while before he left to go home and I wanted to bring up his appearance when he came over earlier but I figured if he wanted to tell me what really happened he would. The week ended and a new one began as I was on chapter five of my book that was coming along really well. It was Tuesday afternoon when Chase came over after school, I had told him to come right in but I guess old habits die hard as he still rang the doorbell. "Chase what happened to you!" I said deeply concerned as he had a cut at the corner of his mouth and his clothes were dirty after evidently having been in another fight. "I bumped into a door" he said holding his head down as I let him in. "Is that what you told your grandmother?" I asked knowing there is no way she would had swallowed that. "I haven't been home yet" he said refusing to look at me as he held his head down. "Come on let go take care of that cut" I said looking down at him. We went upstairs to the bathroom and I got some antiseptic and some cotton swabs sat down on the toilet and waited for chase as he washed his face at the sink. "so what really happened?" I asked looking at him as he came and stood in front of me. "Nothing" he said meekly holding his head down letting his black hair cover his eyes. "Chase you're my friend you can trust me" I said putting my hands on his shoulders as he slowly lifted his head and stared at me. "There's this guy that is always picking on me and some other kids everyday" he said after letting out a deep sigh. "why don't you tell a teacher" I said to him as I wet one of the cotton swabs with some of the antiseptic. "I can't or he'll beat me up everyday" he said protesting. "Okay why don't you tell your grandmother" I said to him. "That's even worse, then he'll beat me up more" he said with a look of fear on his face. "okay then you need to stand up to him" I said as I pulled him a little closer to me. "But I don't know how to fight" he said looking at me. "Don't worry about that I'll teach you what to do" I said smiling at him. "This is going to sting a little" I said warning him before I started cleaning the cut at the corner of his mouth. "Ow Ow Ow ahhhh Owwww" he gasped out and winced gritting his teeth through the pain. "Sorry" I said apologizing as I knew how much this stuff burned but it was better than letting it get infected. "why don't you go check in with you grandmother and change and come back and do your homework" I said to him after I was done cleaning the cut. "Okay" he replied glad that I was done. "Thanks Randy" he said smiling. "Hey what are friends for" I said smiling at him. we went back downstairs and Chase went home to check in with his grandmother and change his clothes. "So what did you tell you grandmother?" I asked when he came back. "She wasn't at home she left me a note saying she went to the supermarket" he said happy to avoid having to explain what happened. "well you have to tell her you know she is going to notice" I said to him as he sat down on the couch with his back pack. "Don't worry I'll make something up" he said smiling at me as he got his book out to get started on his home work. I chuckled looking at him as he smiled back at me before I left him to his home work and continued with my writing. Chase finished up his home work and turned on the TV while I was finishing writing the last page before calling it a day. "So are you going to teach me how to fight now?" Chase asked looking at me with a smile. "I'm not teaching you how to fight I'm going to teach you how to stand up for your self" I said smiling at him as I saved my work and closed my laptop. "Okay so what do I do" Chase asked standing up. "So how big is this guy that's picking on you? I asked putting down my computer "well I guess he weigh more than me since he is a lot bigger than me" he said as I got up and moved the coffee table out of the way. "Okay here the first thing you do when you're up against someone bigger than you are" I said as I was also beat up almost every day when I was the same age as Chase. "You kick him in the shin to get his attention" I said as I used Chase as demonstration making him giggle. "Then you punch him in the stomach like this" I said pretending to punch chase in the stomach making him laugh. "Then you take your palm like this and you hit him in the nose" I said pretending to hit Chase in the nose as he laughed. "Okay now do you remember what to do or do I need to show you again" I said as he smiled up at me. "show me one more time" he said smiling at me. I showed him again making him laugh as I demonstrated on him how to deal with this bully that had been constantly harassing him. "So do you remember now?" I asked smiling at him. "Yeah kick him in the shin punch him in the stomach and then hit him in the nose I got it" He said smiling as he sat back down on the couch. "Is this the same guy that beat you up last week when you said you fell?" I asked him after I moved the coffee table back. "Yeah" he said as I sat down next to him. "Did you get beat up too when our were my age?" Chase asked looking at me. "Almost everyday" I said looking at him. "what did you do?" he asked looking at me attentively. "well my aunt told me that I had to standup for myself or people were going to walk all over me" I said remembering that lecture as if it were yesterday. "And did you?" Chase asked. "Yeah I did" I said smiling as I remembered what happened. "You see there was this boy that was always picking on me he used to beat me up everyday until one day I gave him a taste of his own medicine" I said smiling. "what did you do to him?" Chase asked eagerly. "Well one day after school he was picking on me and my friend and I just lost it" I said chuckling a little. "Did you beat him up?" Chase asked eager for details. "I jumped on him and pounded him until his nose was bloody and he started crying" I said laughing as I remembered I was crying after I beat the hell our of him. I cried because I knew how much trouble I would be in when he told his parents I beat him up, but he didn't which made me really relieved I guess he didn't want everyone to know a boy half his size kicked his ass. "Randy what if what you showed me doesn't work" Chase said looking at me for an answer. "Then kick him in the balls and run like fucking crazy" I said as we both started laughing really loudly at that. we watched TV until dinner time and went over to his house, sure enough his grandmother did notice the cut at the side of his mouth but Chase told her he was holding a pencil and tried to swat a fly and he cut himself. I really tried my best not to laugh for his sake or his grandmother would know he was lying but luck for him she bought his story. The week wore on and Chase told me he wouldn't be coming over in the afternoon for a couple of days as he was working on something for school. I asked him what it was but he told me it was a secret that he'd show me what it was when he was done. I knew it involved him painting as the night I went over to his house for dinner he'd have paint on his hands and his face before he washed up. I smiled and waited patiently for him to show me his big secret that he was working on. The weekend came and I decided to sleep in on Saturday morning since Chase kept me up really late Friday night after we spent the evening with him watching all three lord of the rings movies back to back. Chase had other plans as I was awakened by the door bell, I dragged myself downstairs and opened the door as he greeted me with a big smile. "what's that you got there?" I asked smiling back at him taking a big yawn as I let him in . "Remember the secret I told you I was working on" he said as we walked to the living room carrying one of his painting under his arm. "Yeah I remember I said taking another big yawn sitting on the coffee table as he sat down on the couch. "Oh I woke you up I'm really sorry" he said apologizing. "Forget about that, what's the secret" I said smiling at him eager to see what his next painting was about. "Okay remember when you told me that I should enter one of my paintings in an art competition" he said smiling at me. "Yeah vaguely" I said truthfully. "Well there is this art competition and I made a new painting that I think I'm gonna enter to represent my school" he said smiling holding his new masterpiece in his lap. "well let me see it then come on, come on" I said making him giggle a little as he unwrapped it from the cloth he had covered it in. "Here it is" he said after uncovering it and holding it to me. "OOH another Chase Mitchell original" I said smiling taking the painting from him making him laugh. I looked at it still amazed at his artistic skill for someone so young without any professional training. "So what do you think?" Chase said as I looked over the painting at him an his eager expression as he looked at me. "Hmmmm" I said looking at the painting and then at him. "You don't like it do you" he said as his happy expression quickly faded. "No I love it, I was just teasing you" I said chuckling as he started smiling again. "Really?" he asked eagerly. "Yeah I bet you'll win first place with this" I said with a smile looking over his painting of the statue of liberty. "we have to name our painting, I was thinking of calling it the spirit of New York what do you think" Chase asked looking at me for my opinion. "what about the spirit of freedom" I suggested. "Yeah I think I'll call it that" he said with a big smile. I handed him back his painting and he wrapped it back up and followed me upstairs as I went up to get dressed. we spent the rest of the day and the weekend for that matter just hanging out together not doing much of anything. I was eagerly waiting for Chase Monday afternoon to find out if his painting was accepted or not. The doorbell rang and I smiled as he still didn't just come right in, I left my writing and answered the door and was happy to see he didn't get beat up today. "So did your painting get accepted?" I asked as we went back to the living room. "Yeah they're announcing the winner next week" he said smiling. "I hope I'm in the top ten" Chase said sitting down on the couch. "You're gonna win trust me" I said smiling confident that his painting would be chosen as the winner. Chase went into the kitchen and made himself a snack and he was thought full enough to make me a sandwich too and relaxed for a few minutes and we talked all about what we did today. I would have to say besides my aunt Chase was the only person who cared if I had a good day or not. After we finished eating our sandwiches I went back to my writing and Chase got started on his home work. At dinner his grandmother thanked me for getting him to enter the art competition as she had tried in vain to get him involved in something. I told her that it was all his decision but she still credited me for telling him getting his painting into the art competition, Chase even jumped in saying he would have never entered if I didn't tell him about entering one of his paintings into the competition. All through the week Chase kept me updated about his status in the competition, he had made it into the top five and the three painting that would be in the finals would be announced on Monday. I was really happy to see him so excited about this competition, Chase was skeptical about his painting being chosen in the top three but I already knew he had it in the bag. Friday came ending the first week of October and Mrs. Mitchell asked me to take drive her to the doctor, it interrupted my writing but I was more than happy to do it after all she did for me. On our way to the doctor's office we talked about Chase and how excited he was about this art competition and his grandmother again thanked me for getting him involved. After her doctor's appointment there were a few errands she had to run so I drove he to all the places she had to go to. Mrs. Mitchell apologized for keeping me from my writing but I told her it was no problem to after all she did treat me like family. After I got back home I did my laundry which I had been avoiding the entire week and cleaned up the house a little, I couldn't help think of my aunt wondering if her days were as hectic as this. When I was finally finished with my chores and sat down on the couch the doorbell rang. "Unreal" I said aloud as I saw the time on my watch it was already three thirty. I got up and went to answer the door smiling as I knew it was Chase ,I started to think he liked me greeting him at the door so I went along with it. "RANDY, RANDY, IT WORKED IT WORKED" Chase said almost running me over panting heavily when I opened the door. "HEY SLOW DOWN, SLOW DOWN" I said chuckling as I let him in wondering what had worked to get him so excited. "What you told me to, kick Kenny in the shin and then punch him in the stomach and then hit him in the nose like this" Chase said still panting and demonstrating what I showed him in the air. "Who's Kenny the guy that's been bothering you" I said still a little behind. "Yeah" he said smiling taking a deep breath still panting. "He tried to grab me after but I did what you said and I kicked him in the balls and his eyes teared up and I ran and I didn't stop until I got here" he said panting with a smile. I smiled looking at Chase still excited from standing up to the bully who had been bothering him. He smiled as he panted with his back hair stuck to his forehead a little from all the exertion of running all the way home. "I'll get you a glass of water" I said chuckling as I left heading to the kitchen. I came back with a cool glass of water for Chase and watched him gulp it down and wipe his mouth with the back of his hand. Seeing as it was Friday he left his home work for over the weekend and we spent the afternoon in front of the TV. The weekend passed more quickly than expected and the new week began I had planned to do some serious writing today to make up for Friday and the weekend as Chase had kept me occupied. Just as I started up my computer to start writing the phone rang, I sighed and wondered who it could be. I didn't get that many calls except for a few friends from college keeping in touch and telemarketers trying to sell me shit. "Oh I hope I didn't disturb you" Mrs. Mitchell said on the other end. "Not at all" I said smiling to myself. "what can I do for you?" I asked offering my services. "There's something really important I want to discuss with you whenever you're can you please come over" she said as I could detect a hint of stress in her voice. "Okay I'll be right over" I said looking at my computer again being kept from my work. "Oh you don't have to come right away" she said chuckling a little. "No it's okay I'll see you in a minute" I said deciding to go over and find out what she wanted to talk to me about. "Alright I'll see you in a minute" she said before she hung up. I started thinking that maybe Chase had let it slip about him getting rough with that kid that was picking on him, and his grandmother wanted to talk to me about teaching her grandson to solve his problem with violence. "knock, knock," I said tapping on the wall announcing my presence as I stood at the kitchen door. "Oh Randy come on in and have a seat I made you a cup of tea" she said greeting me with a smile. "I'll take the seat but I'll past on the tea" I said smiling as I took a seat at the kitchen table. "Oh have some it's good for you" she said smiling as she took a seat near me at the table too. "Alright" I said deciding to try something new for a change as she poured me some tea. "You said you had something important to talk to me about" I said after taking a sip of the tea that wasn't so bad once I tried it. "It's more of a huge favor actually" she said smiling at me after she took a sip from her tea cup. "Sure, anything" I said agreeing before I heard what it was she wanted me to do. "Now I want you to hear all I have to say before you make up your mind" she said I just now noticed she had a few papers near her on the table. "Okay" I replied. "I would like you to become Chase's legal guardian in the event that anything happens to me" Mrs. Mitchell said shocking the hell out of me. "uh ...I ....Um ...I don't no what to say" I said chuckling a little as this was the absolute last thing that I expected to be asked by her. "I mean I'm flattered that you'd think of me to be Chase's guardian but isn't there someone more responsible that you know that you could ask" I said looking at her. "Oh you're plenty responsible enough after all you took care of your aunt for all those years and you never once complained" Mrs. Mitchell said smiling at me. I smiled at her as she had no idea how much it meant to me hearing her say that, as a lot of people didn't know my aunt had been sick for years before she died. "what about you friends that you play bridge with maybe you can ask one of them or some of your family" I said as I really couldn't see myself having to be responsible for anyone other than myself. "They're all old women like me and Chase and you are all the family I've got" she said looking at me. "And besides I trust you and Chase adores you" Mrs. Mitchell said smiling at me. "I'm glad that you trust me but to be Chase's guardian....." I paused not really sure I wanted that responsibility. "I'm not asking you to make up your mind now but please just think about it before you say no" she said taking my hand looking into my eyes with hope. I looked at this aging woman that had treated me as a member of her family and showed me kindness and reassured me when my aunt died. There was no possible way I could say no to her when she asked me for this one favor. "where do I sign" I said smiling at her. "Randy I want you to read this before you make up your mind this is a huge decision" she said handing me the papers she already had drawn up reminding me of how important this was and wasn't to be taken likely. "I know it is, but you've never asked me to do anything for you after all the kindness you showed me and I would like to do this to repay you for all that you've done for me" I said smiling at her. "Are your sure?" she asked me making sure I knew that there was no turning back. "I'm sure but there is one thing I'd like to know before I sign this " I said looking down at the legal documents in front of me and then back at her. "what sweetheart" she said smiling. "where are Chase's parents, what happened to them?" I asked. "well I think you at least deserve to know what happened" she said with a heavy sigh. "Chase's father, my son, was an accountant he was always looking for a short cut in getting things done" she said pouring herself some more tea. "well he found a short cut to getting rich fast that landed him in a lot of trouble with the wrong people" she said taking a sip of tea. "He stole some money from them and he had to run after they threatened to kill him and his family" she said as I head her voice quiver a little. "He left Chase with me and he and his wife fled to I don't know where" she said sigh deeply again. "Then I got a call last month that they had found the remains of a woman and a man they couldn't identify down in New Mexico" she said wiping a tear from her eye. "My son was wearing his father's ring with my named engraved on it so that how they new it was him and his wife" she said in tears now as I was trying to keep my own emotions in check. I knew that it was something really terrible that happened but I had no idea how terrible up until now. "Randy please don't tell Chase anything about this" Mrs. Mitchell said drying her tears. "You mean he doesn't know" I said a little shocked that she had not told him what happened. "No, Chase has been really withdrawn and since he met you he has changed it's too soon to tell him" she said wiping a tear from her eye. "I know that this is a lot to deal with but don't you think Chase should know the truth" I said to Mrs. Mitchell as she wiped her tears away again. "Yes you're right, he does deserve to know the truth but not right now" she said looking at me. "Don't worry I won't say anything about it to him" I said holding her hand. It wasn't my place to tell Chase about what happened to his parents all I could do was be there for him if he needed to talk whenever she decided the time was right to tell him. "I'm all that he has now" she said as tears streamed out of her eyes. "I'm an old woman Randy and I am not going to be around forever I just want to know that my grandson will be with someone who cares about him if anything should happen to me" she said taking my hand. "I understand "I said as I felt tears running down my face as I realized I was crying too. "If anything should happen to you I promise you that I will take care of him" I said to her as we hugged. "Oh thank you" she said as we held each other. Mrs. Mitchell smiled at me when we broke our embrace and wiped the tears from my face, I wiped my eyes a little and took up the pen and she showed me where I had to sign on the papers. "Thank you so much for doing this" she said smiling at me after I finished signing all the papers. "You better get back to your writing I've kept you long enough" she said smiling at me. "I'll call my lawyer to have him file the papers" she said to me as she got. I smiled at her and got up from the table to head back home, we said our goodbyes even though we'd see each other for dinner and I left. When I got back home all I could think of was what I had learned about Chase's parents from his grandmother. Chase came by after school and I tried my best to be my usually self but knowing what I did about his parents was just a little overwhelming. Despite my best efforts to pretend to maintain my normal demeanor around him he did notice my somewhat melancholy state as all I thought about was what his grandmother said to me. "Are you okay?" Chase said suddenly turning away from his homework looking at me. "Uh...sure why do you ask?" I said trying my best to smile and appear like my usual self. "I don't know you just seem sort of sad" he said shrugging his shoulder slightly as he looked at me with his jet black hair covering his eyes slightly. I couldn't believe that I was that transparent that he picked up on my moody behavior as my aunt would have described it. "Nah I'm fine" I said faking my best smile. He simply smiled at me and continued with his home work unaware that the sadness he detected from me was for him. I kept my promise to Mrs. Mitchell and said nothing to Chase about what happened to his parents. After he finished his homework he moved closer a little closer to me on the couch to pass they afternoon as we usually did watching TV. "why didn't you write anything today are you sick?" Chase asked suddenly catching me by surprise. I looked at him as he turned his head and stared up at me with his blue eyes half covered by his black mane; wondering just how he knew I didn't write anything today. "I just didn't feel like it I guess" I said going with the simplest explanation I could come up with. "Oh I guess you must be really sad" he said turning back to the TV. "why do you say that?" I asked wondering how it was he was able to read me so accurately. "It's just the way you look, my grandma looks that way sometimes" he said glancing at me and then back at the TV. I felt terrible and did my best not to let it show as I knew exactly why his grandmother looked sad. "It was kinda strange though not having you clacking away at your computer when I was doing my homework" he said looking at me with a smile. "well don't worry I'll be clacking away when you come over tomorrow" I said giving him my first genuine smile all afternoon. "Oh yeah I forgot to tell you my painting is in the top three and I'll know if I win or not this Friday" Chase said flatly. "wow that great I told you you'd make it" I said somehow sounding more excited than he was. "Yeah it's great" he said without the slightest bit of enthusiasm. "well you don't sound too happy" I said looking at him studying his calm adult like expression. "It no big deal whether I win or not" he said nonchalantly. That was another thing about him, Chase changed moods so quickly and often I was having a hard time keeping up with him. A week ago he couldn't shut up about this art competition and now it seemed like the furthest thing from his mind. I just looked at him and smiled at the complicated being that was Chase and continued watching TV with him. "Randy there's something I think you should know" Chase said abruptly after we had been watching TV for about an hour now. "Yeah, what is it" I said looking at him. "It's about my parents" he said holding his head down a little. "They abandoned me" he said barely audible. "They just woke me up in the middle of the night and brought me and left me with my grandma and they never came back" he said sniffling a little. "I hate them" he said wiping his eyes with the back of his hand as his sadness quickly transformed into anger. "Don't be so hard on them maybe they had a reason for leaving you with your grandmother" I said putting my hand on his shoulder. I wish that I could tell him the real reason why his parents had left him with his grandmother, but I already promised her that I wouldn't tell him anything. "Yeah well I still hate them and I wish they never come back" he said raising his voice looking at me as his anger grew. "I'm sorry" he said immediately apologizing for yelling at me. "It's okay I know just how you're feeling" I said truly knowing what he was going through. I felt like my aunt had abandoned me went she died even though I was older than Chase when she died it still didn't hurt any less when she was gone. I had dinner at his house as usual helped him with the dishes and hung around for a while chatting with his grandmother before I left. I went to bed pretty early that night not really watching TV as I usually did after dinner, but try as I might I couldn't sleep. All I could think about was what Chase's grandmother told me about his parents and what he believed happened. I got on with my writing as the week progressed slowly with a couple of rain showers that were pretty normal this time of year. It was Friday and I had planned to take Chase out to see a movie as we made it a sort of rule that we would go hang out somewhere at least once a week either on Thursday of Friday. I got a lot of writing done that day and was close to finishing chapter six when the door bell rang, I smiled knowing it one Chase coming over as usual. "OH MY GOD CHASE WHO DID THIS TO YOU!" I said as I opened the door and saw Chase standing there holding is side with blood running from his nose and bruises all over his face. He immediately broke down in tears as I helped him inside and took his back pack off and walked over to the living room. "Chase what happened" I asked as he sat down on the couch sobbing uncontrollably. "Kenny got some of his friends to hold me down so he could beat me up for what I did to him last week" Chase said between his sobs. I felt terrible feeling that somehow this was my fault because I was the one that told him to stand up to the boy that was bullying him. "Come on upstairs let's get you cleaned up" I said as he was still crying. I helped him upstairs to the bathroom and sat on the toilet in front of him and wiped the blood away from his nose that had dripped down to his shirt. "Does it hurt here?" I asked touching his nose hoping that those assholes that beat him up hadn't broken it. He shook his head no and I breathed a sigh of relief. "Hold your head back" I said holding some tissues to his nose hoping that the bleeding would stop. "Here hold this and keep your head back" I said to Chase and let him hold the tissues on his nose so I could get a wet towel to clean the dirt off his face. "Come over here by the sink" I said to Chase as I wet an end of the towel to clean off his face. He lowered his head and walked over to me as tears were still flowing freely from his eyes. I cleaned up his face and then gently wiped the bruises on his face as I noticed his left eye was starting to turn blackish blue. "Fucking idiots" I muttered to myself as I wet another end of the towel and wiped his eye hoping that it wouldn't get swollen. Chase looked at me still holding the tissues up to his nose as I gently wiped his eye as he had stopped crying. "Okay let me see" I said moving his hand from his nose to see if it had stopped bleeding. "Is it still bleeding" he asked still very upset. "No it stopped" I said wiping away a few bits of the blood stained tissues that stuck on his face. "Come on I'll take you home" I said to him after I threw the blood stained tissues in the toilet and flushed them. "NO I don't want my grandma to see me like this" Chase said as he started sobbing again. "He
